An historical narrative I loved was Operation Kronstadt: The True Story of Honor, Espionage, and the Rescue of Britain's Greatest Spy, The Man with a Hundred Faces by Harry Ferguson. Set after WWI it reads half like an adventure novel as a group of sailors work to rescue a master spy from Russia using balsa speedboats. Really good read!
