Revisiting this now that I'm halfway through the book. I couldn't agree more with how uncomfortable it has been to confront the aspects of my consciousness that ranks people in hierarchies.

The part about turning the word 'racist' into a pejorative is especially insightful. It's not a slur. We don't have to be afraid of it. Like you said, it isn't the core of our being but we, like Kendi admits himself, should be aware of our racism and the ways it manifests itself. I like how he doesn't leave anyone out and he is constantly pointing the finger of blame at himself.

It seems like he has plenty of critics, but I wonder if they've even read the book. I plan to dig a little bit into what their arguments are.

I'm a fairly new subscriber, but already I'm thinking my local Brooklyn bookstore should be paying you a commission. Thank you for your thoughtful newsletters. I really enjoy them and have already made several purchases based on your recommendations. Today's on race and antiracism is really good and has succinctly accomplished what a lot of other wordy emails and statements in my inbox have attempted.
