Happy Friday, readers! There’s no shortage of books about our bleak future. Climate change and political fracturing are the biggies, but it’s generally pretty easy to find a number of pessimistic outlooks about what’s in store for humanity. The novels I’m featuring today lean into this bleakness early on, but then offer enough glimpses of hope and optimism to keep you from mentally spiraling down a path of complete gloom and doom.
Just subscribed to Notes from Three Pines - Like you I will also be a new reader of Penny, so looking forward to diving in with a group, and will of course be looking for the Jane Austen connection :)
I have recently discovered Silas House. I first read “Same Sun Here “ which lead to reading “Clay’s Quilt” and then I was hooked. Tonight I’m going to a reading of a short story “How to Be Beautiful”. One of his talents that I appreciate most is how well he writes teenagers’ stories in his books. It’s almost as if he IS a teenager with a remarkable ability to write.
